Newt is a historian by trade. He didn't come from the usual lawyer class like most politicians. He ran for office originally because he loves this country from a deep understanding of its historical roots. Sure, he got caught up in plenty of Washington dirty dealing and the like...nobody becomes Speaker if they don't play the game at least some.
But he's never been the typical establishment type. He made waves in the 90s, and he has continued to do so. And he might have been skeptical of Trump initially, but he's on board with him now.
He also actually understands the Constitution and knows Trump has a solid path to victory, so why back out on him now?
