Jesus also said to sell your cloak and buy a sword if you don’t have one. Pro 2nd amendment before it was cool.

In Jesus' time, swords took weeks of manual labor to forge; the materials had to be collected, smithied, the hilt and blade joined, the leather for a scabbard had to come from somewhere and had to be worked, all of this done by hand and without the use of modern transportation... you didn't just order it off Amazon. There were no mall ninjas in 35 B.C. Swords were a single-purpose item with no application for farm work. They were tools of war.

Jesus didn't tell his followers to pick up farm tools. They would have had a much easier time acquiring wooden polearm-style equipment like scythes, or hammers, spears, axes or clubs.

Jesus told his followers to pick up weapons.

What kind, for a novice, would Jesus recommend?

Asking for a disciple.
