It isn't that we struggle with normal conversation/customs... It's that we find them to be a very predictable, monotonous waste of time in most situations. Life is finite, and so for us to use our "gifts" as effectively as possible, we have to use time more wisely and minimize distractions. That's not to say that we don't enjoy others' company. Most people are very simple and never give serious thought to politics, history or the meaning of life. Try discussing these topics with most people and they zone out or brush it off.
Thing is, regardless of IQ what you just described is how your average random person feels. Basically everyone who is or isn't brilliant basically considers themselves to be brilliant.

I don't think that's true. With a high enough IQ and the drive to make a difference, you know there's a very real possibility of changing the world for the better. Maybe there is a range above 100 where your statement is true, but I think once you exceed that range, a "realistic optimist" is more likely.
It isn't that we struggle with normal conversation/customs... It's that we find them to be a very predictable, monotonous waste of time in most situations. Life is finite, and so for us to use our "gifts" as effectively as possible, we have to use time more wisely and minimize distractions. That's not to say that we don't enjoy others' company. There is definitely a time and place for talking and socializing, and some of the best knowledge and ideas come from it. We just tend to be more selective with the time, place, and people.
With that said, I'm definitely a bit of a hermit so you're right about that. I blame the wu flu and all this other bullshit going on though. I would be out and about socializing more if I could, but it would still be very selective, as mentioned above.
I think what I was getting at is that his perspective is regular and mostly common sense we hear from average everyday Pede's.

Chris Langan. He got a really high IQ score on a test back in the 90s. Like 200.
He’s rightwing. He’s kind of an anti-intellectual smart guy, he hates academics. He’s worked mostly blue collar jobs in his life. He’s been a bouncer, construction worker. A rancher now. His wife is smart too, she scored like a 177 or something.
He’s also spent a lot of time reading and philosophizing. He made his own theory of reality called the cognitive theoretic model of the universe (it is mostly just uniquely combining the ideas of several philosophers), and is often mistaken as a physical theory. Most people give up reading it and call it nonsense, which isn’t fair because it is actually logically self contained and consistent.
He's also profiled in a Malcolm Gladwell book. One of the points was that even geniuses could use parents who teach them how to navigate the world, as Lanagan had to drop out of college because he had disputes with professors.
Is there any evidence that his IQ score was that high? I searched around a little bit, admittedly not much, but actually curious if we're ultimately just taking his word for it.
I don’t think there are any psychometrically approved tests for IQs that high, so any estimates for Chris’s IQ are just that. He calls himself 190-210. It’s a serious challenge to even create such a test, since you basically have to be as smart or smarter than the person being measured in order to have meaningful questions. Most IQ tests break down somewhere in the 3-4 standard deviation range (roughly 145-160).
Basically, Langan took some mail in IQ test challenge (created by Ronald K. Hoeflin) and missed only one question. He actually took it twice and the first time didn’t attempt to answer some of the questions, but his second attempt he attacked them all. The test creator, Hoeflin has a high IQ himself and part of the reason he made the test was because standard IQ tests were inadequate at challenging very smart people (since they all basically max them out). Chris’s second attempt is the frequently touted ~200. He also took it before the answers had been published. A couple other famous big brains (Marylin Vos Savant, Rick Rosner) took the test and scored similarly. Fwiw, Rosner (who is a creepy weirdo) considers Langan smarter than himself.
But he did take a psychometrically valid WAIS-III iq test administered by ABC’s 20/20 show, and he hit the ceiling of 160, so we can comfortably say he is north of 160.
He is super smart. Aced the SAT and took a nap during it.
