Have you seen an anime called Legend of Galactic Heroes?
It's a sci fi about a space war between a republic and monarchy. It's main theme imo is that there's no perfect system of government. Liberalism and authoritarianism, democracy and dictatorship have their strengths and weaknesses.
Spoiler alert
There's a part when an admiral on the republic side Yang Wenli gets an order from the president to surrender at the decisive battle and let the monarchy win. This is because the civilian leadership is corrupt and cowardly and worked out a backroom deal with the monarchy to keep their jobs and wealth under an occupation government.
Yang's advisors are outraged and try to convince him to disobey the president, win the battle and become a temporary military dictator to clean up the corrupt civilian leadership.
Yang declines and says (paraphrasing) "This is an ideological war. It's a contest to see which system of government has the right to rule humanity. On our side, voters have a responsibility to elect strong and honest leaders. Instead they've been bought off by bread and circuses and voted in weasels like our president and congress. If I disobey the democratically elected president and seize power for myself, it becomes a war between two autocracies and becomes meaningless. By following our president's orders I'm carrying out the will of the people. I believe it's my duty to history and future generations to show this is what happens to a republic when voters choose bread and circuses over moral integrity from their leaders."
As a fellow Canadian...... I doubt it.
The only non-cucked politician I know of is Maxime Bernier and he lost his seat in Parliament last election.
