I myself am a Jewish pede and I always joke that we are in a lovecraftian cult. We worship an otherworldly being who is unknowable. He has a voice that is described as sounding like multiple water falls. His angels have different classes sort of like a hierarchy but that just becomes blurred near the way to the top.
You got stories of God giving people leprosy because they were being racist
Stories of emperors going mad and sprouting feathers
Stories of women being turned into salt
God deciding to directly influence Pharaoh’s emotions just so he could punish Egypt more
A story of Enoch who God loved so much he turned him into an Angel and renamed him Metatron after giving him like sixteen wings and fifty eyes
The scariest thing about it for us is that unlike you
christians we don’t have a devil. There is only God, he makes hurricanes, diseases. He sits in heaven and he rules over Sheol and Gehenna. He’s not what we describe as, “good.” He’s just beyond understanding and sometimes will be interested by someone or some people.
If all that is not lovecraftian I don’t know what is.
More people need to realize most of the modern day visualizations from the bible are extremely sensationalized or completely made up. The bible is legitimately horrifying to read.
The bible and God are extremely scary. This is why it always says fear THE LORD. Because God is much scarier than the devil and it isn't even close.
Modern "Christianity" likes to paint a hippy commune about being Christian, peace and love blah blah.
That part is true but they don't want to tell you about the fear and wrath of almighty God, because they want people to not take it seriously. Those are key components for a believer to understand to walk the true path.
I agree, many people only focus on the "love" portion of God and completely forget that he made the ground OPEN UP to swallow people after Jesus' crucifixion with no mercy. Also, you know, the whole multiple plagues thing.

Yep. God is love. But he is also just. He is vengeance. He is war.
