There were supposed to be four crossings of the Delaware. One was canceled before it was really planned, ‘cause that leader didn’t have sufficient forces. The next didn’t try, because it was too icy. The third made it across, but came back after they realized they couldn’t get their artillery across.

Washington and his men made it across. They won the battle all on their own.

The last crew came back over when they got word, but Washington had kept on moving. So they turned back again. Washington went on to win the war.
