If the rumours about a "new strain" are true, then it completely invalidates the vaccine, since now we'd need a new vaccine for this new strain of virus, that then needs to go through clinical trials all over again (probably).

Keep in mind that in July there were articles talking about 30 different variants popping up. They want this new strain to seem unique but the reality is the virus is not the same virus that came from China anymore. This is just how viruses work.

The new COVID in the UK apparently came from South Africa. Therefore any national lock-down without flight restrictions is useless. When people make memes making fun of the UK gov, don't feel bad about laughing at them. I always thought the common cold was Rhinovirus. I know Coronavirus is a relatively common one as well, but I don't believe it was the original common cold.
The common cold is a generic term for the common cold, which has its basis in several viruses.
Common cold is pretty much anything that makes you sneeze/cough with runny nose, etc.
The reason there is no “common cold” syrup, like flu or specific symptoms is because of that simple fact. The common cold is caused by more then one virus with common symptoms.
