Why do I think it's that - because everyone is trying to come up with a rational explanation for this. Suicide is rarely rational (sometimes but not always). Suicides go up this time of year too. Combine that with a shit-year and ongoing lockdowns ... something creative this way comes.

The bomber(s) didn't want a bunch of people to get killed, that seems correct information. But it does make this a very unusual bomber. The bomber(s) obviously wanted to attack the adjacent building without causing massive casualties. There is a mystery element to this story as it's not fitting normal profiles.

I find it hard to believe that a person would go through this much trouble offing themselves and not bother telling anybody who they are or why they did it.

It's hard for normal folks to believe because normal people don't exist on such a razors edge that they'd blow themselves up.
Same applies to most criminals. Most are 'dumb opportunists'. I had a neighbor who was mugged and his car jacked while he was parking. They were caught moments later and they had the 3-strikes rule against them so off they went.
You'd 'think' they'd consider a,b,c,d cause and effect etc, but that's 'normal thinking'.
