If you're flying those flags on-the-way, add a good measure of drag on the highway. I'd drop that 15mpg to 14mpg.
And I don't get the where a full tank of gas factors into the calculation. If you know miles to travel, miles per gallon and cost per gallon it's just division and multiplication right? The tank of gas info is distracting and meaningless if you have those three pieces of data.
If you pay $2.10 like where I am in southern New Hampshire, and perhaps up to $2.60 down the corridor, then call $2.35 per gallon average for a trip to DC.
2,800 miles divided by 14mpg times $2.35 per gallon equals $470.
(2,800/14)2.35=470
So, $470, add $30 for wiggle and if everything goes right given the numbers input above $500 should cover gas for the round trip.
And someone mentioned Triple A (AAA), it would be worthwhile IMO.
