While I agree with most of what you say, I believe Trump can be perhaps even more influential if he gets screwed here. He may not be able to lead us via being the President, but he can become the leading voice of discontent about what is happening and how the system is rigged. If a billionaire can win the Presidency and still be unable to change the system, who can? He can hammer that point over and over and tell everyone we need to tear the system down. Who is going to disagree with that after all we've seen the past 4-5 years? Maybe Trump won't have the support to run again but he can certainly have a large voice in choosing the next candidate.
Hopefully he just finds a way to win now and we won't have to find out what he will do if he gets screwed.
If the situation does become untenable and he is unable to keep the presidency (still a big ‘if’), the role of an opposition-unifying, insurgent ex-president operating outside the system remains a very important ‘plan B’ to keep in mind. As with you, here’s hoping the current ‘plan A’ is successful.
That plan B will be a non-starter because Trump and his family will have to either leave the country, or Trump won't live long past Jan 20th. We are at a do-or-die moment, Trump gets 4 more years with the support of the people, so he can crush the deep state. Or we lose and begin the march towards becoming Venezuela 2.0.
I’m 100% behind you on that, I just feel that this long, uphill battle may see some profound moments of “two steps forward, one step back”, and I try to steel myself to that potential and what may come with it.
