Yup, not sure if Nashville was one, but NSA set up alongside AT&T in the 70's or 80's in order to utilize the trunk.

The NSA doesn't have anything there like they do in NY or SF, but they do route through there via the VIOT Router Complex.

I'm not sure how exactly they'd get information from this place by blowing it up, however I certainly could see them doing this to force the data to be routed to a different hub.

Not sure what makes a prime location or not, but Ann Arbor has one of these types ‘menacing with big vents’ type of buildings as well.
