May be some truth here...why would a terrorist explode a bomb on Christmas day at 6:30am? Literally no one around to injure or terrorize.

That's the point. The explosion was not intended to kill anyone and in fact may have complicated things more if it did. It was to knock out communications so that another crime could occur.

There are much quieter and easier ways to “knock out comms.”

A freaking car bomb? The point of this was the bomb itself.
