I'm honestly getting pretty tired of hearing more and more wild theories about Nashville where the only qualification is the people posting it want it to be true. This is getting embarrassing.
Also, if their backup generator(s) were down - how could people get remote access to the data? One would assume all systems - security and data - are all ultimately looped into the same power sources as there is no need to run one if the other lacks power.
Two seconds of logical thinking makes this so dumb.
Yeah every datacenter I've visited is pretty much a bunker inside a building (or basement) with more backup services/utilities than your average yu-gi-oh game has trap cards.
Its their job to ensure uptime, even if the outside world has gone to complete shit.
My biggest fear with datacenters is getting caught in the room when the fire suppression systems go off.
This means absolutely nothing. How does removing a generator leave something open for access? Also, what "system" was blind? Also, when say, "their private cloud data" who is "they"?

Must have upgraded since 2005 because they only had one then. https://www.nashvillepost.com/home/article/20450405/sungard-data-systems-backup-generator-shut-down-during-fire-department-visit
Ignorance is the key to selling propaganda. These same ignorant people will probably down vote you for telling the truth.

And if it fails you can always blame it on the network guys ;)
Flipping a generator off and on has zero to do with being blind to anything.

Eye gouging theory for any it person with datacenter experience
Power on, generator off = Who Cares? Generator off, power off = Oh Shit
NOISE
Noise. It's not even a Sungard AS DC anymore. vXchnge bought it before Sungard went bankrupt.
The real question is what customers of vX were hosting workloads there?
