One thing that is confusing is that in the Carribbean region Hibisicus sabadiffra is called sorrel. But in the U.S. and Europe this plant is usually called roselle - and it's not well-known.
In most of the U.S. and Europe the term "sorrel" refers to an entirely different plant, a small herb.
In the U.S. people never tried to boil the plant? or make anything with it? because it seems to me that there could be market for this if it is made correctly.
There are very few places that roselle/sorrel can be grown in the U.S. South Florida, coastal South Texas, Southern California, and Hawai'i are the only places that it could be grown outdoors on a commercial scale. It's too cold or too dry everywhere else.
So, it's not sold in most U.S. grocery stores and most people in the U.S. have never heard of it.
Some roselle/sorrel is imported to the U.S. from the Caribbean and Southeast Asia. It's sold as dried calyces, because once the calyces are dried they keep for a couple of years.
You can buy the dried calyces at Amazon and at online specialty food stores. In the U.S. it is most often sold as "Hibiscus tea."
Ladypede here, but thank you.
lol sorry
It's cool.
