I've tried explaining this to the right for a while now. Nearly every single person I've talked to just replies along the lines of "well, any rational person will be persuaded by our facts . . ."
It's frustrating because people aren't rational - we are driven by emotions, and facts aren't persuasive to most people; emotions are.
I honestly believe this is one of the primary reasons the right has had so many problems with persuasion all these years. Donald Trump appears to understand effective persuasion, but people on the right still don't want to learn the lesson when it's literally, and finally in front of them.
I’d agree with this but that would mean I was convinced via logic.
I’d rather just use temper tantrums to convince others of my strongly held opinions and completely dissolve discourse. /s
The founders believed in freedom of speech precisely due to the power of civil discourse.
If you completely abandon civil discourse then you’re abandoning America.
You can play out what the left is doing. If you want to try and reflect their fascism on the right it’s just going to lead to a shitshow.
The better route is enforcement. I’m not the guy spouting off about civil wars here but respectfully if it comes down to it civil war is a better long term enforcement option than participating in pussy hat public meltdowns and strong-arming business culture into fascist enforcement.
