It can still be an extreme belief even if in the society you aren't considered an extremist. Otherwise, you're essentially making an argument for moral relativism.
I mean... morals are relative. Do you think the universe itself has any innate sense of good and evil? Animals rape and murder one another for survival and replication, but I doubt many people would consider their behavior "evil."
Slavery used to be ok. It's not anymore because people decided that it isn't. One day people might collectively decide that eating meet is wrong. Who knows what 2200AD will look like? I know I don't feel evil.
