Oh, De Blasio fucking tried. They tried canceling all the major jewish holidays. They tried closed down our shuls before the high holidays.
Everyone ended up praying together on the streets and in backyards, getting fined by the cops.
Chanukah for practicing jews isn't that big of a deal.
