Wikipedia is OK with some areas, mostly limited to mathematics, some areas of physics, and computer science. Their articles on algorithms are pretty decent introductions that are easy to grasp for CS students or for anyone requiring a refresher.

Otherwise, I agree. Anything remotely related to politics, history, or current events is a cancerous plague.
