Agree w/ AmericanBeef. Timing is suspect, but that looks like 'Mowing the sky" used for aerial photography.

I live in the area. It happened Christmas Eve and Christmas evening. Sounded military like a helicopter.

So... Is that a normal happening?

Still are folks making a living doing this exact thing. Turns out I know of one. Happens every day.

Uh, the bomber? Or they could have just been logging flight hours.

I heard in another post that the FFA (link) has closed the air space above Nashville (in the area of where the bomb went off). Up to 3,000 ft and a one mile radius...

Some reason I made a quick edit and it isn't showing. I also suggested based on the tight pattern it could be either commercial or civil air patrol doing photography and ground mapping.

Just another piece to the puzzle...

Pretty easy to look up the history of ownership of an aircraft. It could even be a state agency or the GIS evaluating the city.

Hmmm... There was an incident with a dude in a jet pack in CA a day or so ago.

A lot of prop Cessna planes would fall in this class that would be possible to use for ground mapping. With a tail number it would be fairly easy to discern why it was there.

I've seen this before, it's a plane taking real time data and making a mosaic map. Either EO, IR, SAR, radiation, ground penetrating radar.. Wathever . In some cases this is cheaper or faster than satellite imagery.

No idea what it is about in this case.
