When where and who?

stonepony 8 points ago +8 / -0

Elon is sending these up all the time...

You're getting the light show because it's after sunset, and the rockets are elevating in to the light where it's still daytime. It's night for you on the ground, for the camera, it's still daytime up in space where you're seeing these rocket exhausts and cold gas thruster plumes.

Space Force is already fighting battles?

Some one commented this:

Maybe cross-check with SpaceX launches. It looked to me like a first stage separation, and second stage ignition with the first stage reigniting for course correction to land.

Not sure what the pulses were. Maybe shock wave from breaking the sound barrier? Could be the thrusters for minor course correction

They're actually pulses from the steering engine slowing its descent. People aren't used to seeing a rocket slow its main propulsion, then start slowing itself down to land on a recovery ship.

1
CuckS1ayer 1 point ago +1 / -0

Can you normally see them? Can you see them because of the smoke?

1
stonepony 1 point ago +1 / -0

There is no sound in space and you can't see sound barrier shockwaves outside of vapor cones in the lower thick atmosphere.

2
stonepony 2 points ago +2 / -0

You're seeing a payload using cold gas thrusters, pulses balancing against each other in different directions, to park in a particular orbit.

There's no air up there, so, sound isn't a thing up there.

As the rocket goes up you can see the exhaust expanding and getting wider, that's because there is less and less air. Those wispy little thrust pulses are only visible because it's in space and there is no air.

Rocket staging -- it blooms like that because there's very little atmosphere up there (gaseous diffusion). It's lit by the sun which while setting from the ground view, is in full view to light up the rocket exhaust. The first stage's engine is optimized for in-atmosphere operation (small nozzle) while the subsequent stages are optimized for vacuum operation (large nozzle). The shockwaves are due to being faster than the speed of sound, the shockwaves interact with the exhaust that's being lit by the sun.

Rocket's Red Glare

Intercontinental Ballistic Missile Test Fire?

War starts in a couple of days, so..

3
BigIslandFrog 3 points ago +3 / -0

Totally normal.

High enough that the missile is in sunlight. The exhaust lights up into these beautiful shapes.

When I lived in L.A., we'd see these pretty often. Vandenberg AFB would time the launches after sundown so the sky was dark. Folks were always calling the cops and news stations about the light show. Aliens and whatnot.

is it searching for stealth aircraft? where was this taken? Confirm viewership in the area or its fake as everyone in the region should have seen this

2
OccasionalMeme 2 points ago +2 / -0

Seems to be happening more and more places over the last several years.

I've always thought, absent a real explanation, that we're seeing nuclear engines for intended hypersonic craft fail mid-flight.

2
JohnHancock1776 2 points ago +2 / -0

When’s the last time anyone saw that. Cause I see folks caring it hold hat but I have never seen that before.

7
One_Man_Militia 7 points ago +7 / -0

I did. It was unbelievably massive but the cloud was all green. I'm in California, it stopped traffic on the highways. It was explained as a trident III missile. But it looked like nothing I've ever seen. It was otherworldly.

the first several action look relative to rocket action, the end of the video though is unusual -- again, does anyone know where this took place? Where is THIS video from?

Is this near a SpaceX launch by any chance? Looks like maybe a spacex stage separation and landing burns etc maybe.
