WW2 was basically National Socialists vs International Socialists to determine the future of socialism. Oh and Japan was being imperialistic.
We were forced to pick a side and so we make sure the International Socialists won. Surprise when international socialists want to have an international order of socialism.
We should have done as Patton said and attacked the USSR while they were depleted.
Sadly, Japan was baited by FDR on purpose. When the baiting failed, you got Pearl Harbor, a false flag. Even if the last is not believable to you, FDR did try his best to bait.
Also, Japan did not surrender due to nukes. They ignored them as they meant nothing. They were already firebombed like Dresden. Nukes are an exotic way of doing that, at best. They surrendered due to the Soviet Union declaring war on them. The nukes were a good story to save face and provide an excuse to surrender.
Another thing, the correct military strategy against Japan was to destroy bridges and tunnels. That could be done by same planes that did the firebombing. Would take a week tops. It would split the country into 5 smaller regions, which were resource interdependent. That would grind Japanese military to a halt. This was well known to the high command. They purposefully did not do this and firebombed the living shit out of Japan instead. Nukes were an insult added to injury. Why do this?

Their cities were made of paper and wood. Firebombs destroyed literally everything. The only place we didn't firebomb was the nuke sites.
