I don't agree with all your points but agree that it's all about optics. Modern warfare isn't about guns and killing as much as creating the framework of reality to the populace that benefits you most.
Perception is everything. There has to be a bang that wakes people up. It doesn't need to to be violent. Are waves of the ocean violent? They aren't usually. Waves are constant, and when the is a storm they become larger and larger. We have to be like waves.

I'm not as jaded as you are but I get it. When I talk about waves I do think we need to mimic them. We aren't waves against a shore. The better image is waves against a stone wall. Slowly the waves have been breaking it down, but a real storm is needed to break it.

I expect maybe 5 million. Traffic jams every which way for miles and miles, all planes booked out, all trains full, streets jam packed like nobody's seen before.
