Ever had a scratch, nick, cut, or broken bone? Every time a human gets hurt to a degree they learn. The same thing happens with children growing up being at the most malleable and formative years of a humans life, and add to that reinforcement such as pleasure and pain it becomes even more cemented.
A lot of these people had gone through at least 15-30 years of this. Regardless of how we view them and view their beliefs remember that for them to do that would be to work against all of that. It would take akin to breaking both arms & legs, and having to force feed them the truth for several months to years(or through several life and death situations). That is the resistance and denial that they will have to go through in order for them to understand and own that question. Not pretty, and a hard thing to perceive.
