Not a single person = someone dating or married

That one person must be single. Wearing a mask makes you unattractive

Wearing a mask hurts makeup companies

8
Raindrops1984 8 points ago +8 / -0

I read a report that makeup companies have done great this year. Especially companies that sell eyeshadow palettes and brow products. Lipstick was up more than I expected, I guess since everybody wants to look pretty on Zoom calls.

Meh. I work for one of the major brands. We are doing better than most but we are still down a bit. Although it has been much better than expected.

The north, yeah, the cartels are fighting all over there. Go south, go to the Yukatan Peninsula. Instead of cartels, you'll see Mayans guarding their land from the government, who would sneak in and build a resort overnight if the guards let their guard down.

The resorts are the only safe place

3
they-see-me-trollin 3 points ago +3 / -0

plenty of mexico is safe outside of resorts. just stay out of areas run by cartels.

2
CantStumpTheTrump 2 points ago +2 / -0

Do they have clearly posted signs letting me know what areas are safe and which ones are run by gang warlords?

Nevermind seems like a shithole.

1
they-see-me-trollin 1 point ago +1 / -0

it's no different than if you wandered into south central LA or other third world shithole cities in the US like chicago or detroit.

1
Bernier4Canada 1 point ago +1 / -0

If you go to an amazing resort and then leave that resort to go to a mexican city alone then you're an idiot

If you go to an amazing resort and actually use your brain, your biggest fear should be a bus accident. I've gone hours from the resort to some remote location before, never once saw anything bad.

Mexico is not just one place.

Guffman 9 points ago +10 / -1

Sad thing is that even when this coof is long gone and dispelled, there'll still be that moron part of the population walking around, and driving around, wearing masks.

As the old saying goes, you can't fix stupid.

Regardless of masks being mandatory or not i'll stick to them once all this hysteria is over. It is useful to hide my ugly face and also I can laugh in public without people noticing

17
UseMask2WipeAss 17 points ago +17 / -0

I think a lot of people just want to use them to hide their faces because of low self esteem and poor self image.

Please tell me this is a joke. I've never seen a mask that didn't make someone look uglier and lower IQ.

2
CantStumpTheTrump 2 points ago +2 / -0

No joke, they really view them as a fashion accessories like all their heros in the cartoons wore... honestly there is a thread over on reddit every few days about how people just love to be able to hide their face all day; have them in different styles for accessorizing, etc..

well maybe that one person's had Peggy Hill as their spanish teacher, and heard if they had Corona they had to wear a mask.

He's waiting on his 3rd Corona and lime now.

1
CantStumpTheTrump 1 point ago +1 / -0

Just like before all this shit you would occasionally seem people who wore masks in large groups. You would typically pity these people because it meant that they had some health concern that they were taking every precaution to not get sick.

Now they are to be pitied because their childhood pediatrician failed to recognize the signs of learning disability. Quite sad really.

Seriously, what is the anti-mask argument here?

COVID is fake or virtually harmless?

Masks are completely useless and ineffective?

Being maskless just looks cool?

Mexico is the epicenter of scientific wisdom and 1st world sanitation?

If COVID is a real virus and potentially very harmful and masks have some effect, wouldn't it make sense to wear one in close quarters?

Even the most extreme disclaimers do not deny that masks limit an infected person's spreading of disease. That is my argument, that even cheap masks limit the range of respiration, thus doing some good.

Surely some angry obscenity will refute the reasoning perfectly.

Cloth face coverings are scientifically proven to not be effective against this virus. Cloth masks create a reason to keep touching your face (bad), as well as trap bacteria in a moist damp place in front of your mouth.

1
My2Cents 1 point ago +1 / -0

Cloth is not a great anti-viral barrier, but scientifically proven to greatly limit the distance respiratory particles travel.

How Well Do Masks Work? (Schlieren Imaging In Slow Motion!)

The objective of this study is to investigate the effects of wearing a surgical mask on inspiratory airflow

The argument is and has been that surgical masks limit the range of expiratory respiration, offering a modicum of protection.

1
Terrysilver35 [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

The small amount of protection is offset by incorrect use of the mask, increased touching of the face, along with a false sense of protection; leading people to come within 6 feet of each other thinking they are safe. All these negatives increase the risk of contracting coronavirus. Additionally, the inspiratory airflow study concludes that masks can increase wearers risk of personal infection. Infected people spread the virus to others.

There are no randomized controlled trials showing mask use has a statistically significant benefit for others. Countries or states with extreme mask mandates do not universally benefit compared to those without. There is one large scale randomized controlled trial proving this statistical insignificance.

Face masks considerably reduce COVID-19 cases in Germany: https://www.pnas.org/content/117/51/32293

we can compare the rise in infections in regions with masks and regions without masks. Weighing various estimates, we conclude that 20 days after becoming mandatory, face masks have reduced the number of new infections by around 45%.

1
Terrysilver35 [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

This study analyzes Jena, a specific region in Germany. It uses April 1st through April 22nd as the control range where infections fell "due to masks". Through this time period infections fell exponentially across all German regions and also around the world. Most notably in New York where there was not yet widespread use of masks in early April and infection rates plummeted during this exact same time period.

By using this logic one could conclude that infection rates in New York dropped by not wearing masks. To add, New York infections are currently back at highs and near every single person in NYC is wearing a mask and has been since May.

This is a video of people coughing. Covering your mouth tightly with your elbow is a much better way to prevent droplets from spreading. Please do not cough directly into your mask, you can harm those around you. Droplets cannot pass through a solid object such as your arm.

This video demonstrates that you should always cover your mouth when you cough, and does not show the effectiveness of a large scale public mask mandate.

Masks, especially the lousy non-N95 kind we're allowed, are not very effective. But they do have some effect. It's the difference between doing something and doing nothing.

When you take medication or have surgery, you are not guaranteed 100% success. Likewise, masks are not 100% effective. Different studies show different degrees of effectiveness.

Distancing and isolation are the safest measures. We can't always isolate. Use common sense, as you see it.
