Face masks considerably reduce COVID-19 cases in Germany: https://www.pnas.org/content/117/51/32293

we can compare the rise in infections in regions with masks and regions without masks. Weighing various estimates, we conclude that 20 days after becoming mandatory, face masks have reduced the number of new infections by around 45%.

This study analyzes Jena, a specific region in Germany. It uses April 1st through April 22nd as the control range where infections fell "due to masks". Through this time period infections fell exponentially across all German regions and also around the world. Most notably in New York where there was not yet widespread use of masks in early April and infection rates plummeted during this exact same time period.

By using this logic one could conclude that infection rates in New York dropped by not wearing masks. To add, New York infections are currently back at highs and near every single person in NYC is wearing a mask and has been since May.

NY rates dropped after psychopath Cuomo got caught killing off elderly, conservative voting, financial liabilities in nursing homes. NYC rabble still throw hip hop house parties, demonstrate and riot freely without mask: Black Trans Lives Matter and such. Poor ones still have to ride underground diseased cattle cars for transportation. Population density is high.

Average citizens can buy N95 masks now, which unquestionably provide protection.

All this wouldn't explain why NYC currently has rates matching previous highs
