Well said! A lot of people don’t understand that the Christian crusades occurred due to Muslims killing Christians. Many who fought in the crusades were wealthy Europeans who gave up everything to defend their religion from being destroyed by Islam. It’s the automatic argument that people use to characterize Christianity as violent. This couldn’t be further from the truth. It was self defense! There is a reason many Christians fled the Middle East!
The self defense argument is not really valid. There was zero Muslim presence in Europe when the Crusades began. Jews and Christians lived protected under Muslim rule for a very long time. Christians were not generally persecuted, neither were Jews.
The Crusades started because the Islamic expansion reached the doorstep of Europe and European rulers panicked.
TL;DR as always, it was about power and control, not religion. But religion is a powerful force to engage a population.
No this isn't true. Jews and Christians had to pay a large tax to the Muslims as punishment. They were referred to as "dhimmis" which means slave. The taxes during the Ottoman empire were so high that families had to give up their children if they could not pay it. To this day, no non-Muslim is allowed into the cities of Mecca or Medina. No churches are allowed to be built in Saudi Arabia. Christians are still treated like 3rd class citizens in the Middle East. The first question on job applications asks you to state your religion. Christians have to work 10x harder for the same job- and they give it to a Muslim- even if the Christian is more qualified. MUSLIMS NEVER PROTECTED THE CHRISTIANS AND JEWS. They stole our lands and pillaged our villages.
