can not believe that President Trump's plan to save the Republic involves sending a Million+ ordinary citizens into a civil war. Unorganized, untrained, many unfit. This is not his plan. Trump hasn't planned for over four years for this day, for THAT to be the plan.

The rally isn't for the people. It's for the electors/senators/house.
It's out of the peoples hands at this point. Once the house/senate count, it's locked in.
He played the optics game to keep pressure on the house/senate. He's likely hoping the pressure stays up and they're teetering on the brink and seeing the amount of people would be enough to give courage to the senators/representatives to speak up.
Trump is banking on the Senate to side with him. That's the lynch pin. it'll fail the majority in the house. But it if wins the majority in the senate, it deadlocks. That's the goal. To convince the senate to majority side with rejecting the electors slated.
