Perhaps that’s the pitch to those who may want to go to DC but don’t quite have the stomach for the initial risk: Head to the outer and meet up with other likeminded people and see what plays out at the epicentre. No doubt if reserves are needed for a second wave of protests, some of those would flee - but others would be galvanised to action.

In any case, this is looking to be more of a celebration than a protest

I'm of a similar mind. There's not much point in protesting, and even going to D.C. armed for a show of force is somewhat pointless without a tangible objective and the will to act. If Trump wants people to show up to D.C. armed, then he needs to be willing to cross the Rubicon, but at this point his plan is unclear.
