What about it? Plenty of rural mailboxes have variations of this, both to make them visible at night to emergency vehicles and visitors where there are no street lights and also so you can see it and use it to spot when you're backing up a trailer.

Heck, we live urban and the posts on our gate have both reflectors and lots of that tape so we can position well to back out our driveway at night with trailers.

Well I didn't say he wasn't some variety of nut.

But other than the weird ass antenna, his house as seen on Google Earth would fit right in in my neighborhood lol. My on the corner neighbor has a property we all refer to as "the compound" (including him). Picture a 1/4 acre, 8 or 9 foot corrugated tin fencing, all kinds of warning signs, barbed wire here and there, floodlights, 2 or 3 RVs. The works. But the dude himself is quite sane, aside from living on a property that looks like something out of Mad Max...Just a standard urban prepper.

I live totally urban, and my neighbor down the road also has an overkill mailbox. A different variety of overkill in that his is now encased in a brick pillar. Our mailbox is home made, welded sheet steel on a steel pillar. After the 3rd or 4th time the mailbox vandals demolished a standard one, we went radical.

Half of my neighbors have locking ones also since we have mailbox thieves.

All of us have security lights and cameras. The compound is equipped with motion detectors and other fancy stuff.
