Its crazy watching all these 'patriots' applauding like trained seals while the country gets sold out from underneath them, just because they get some free cash.

It is sad isn't it?

Trump got DC -Schooled on this. He bent the knee. He has no power. He knows it. They know it.

Maybe something will turn around but it's highly unlikely - as in 99.99% not likely.

He's counting on the enough Republicans in Congress to stand up and deny the election steal?

C'mon now, you can't tell me any of you in here actually believe that will happen.

2
jigglyp33n 2 points ago +2 / -0

Okay, I don't get it, everyone was saying congress was going to override a veto anyway. How is negotiating this bad?

1
sleepy_roger 1 point ago +1 / -0

What negotiation, it's signed.

2
jigglyp33n 2 points ago +3 / -1

The BILL is signed. The veto of the BILL would have been OVERRIDDEN.

Answer the question? How is it bad that he's negotiating 230, given that the bill would be passed as-is anyway?

1
sleepy_roger 1 point ago +1 / -0

Answer the question, again what negotiation?

There is no obligation of follow through by Congress, there is zero negotiating power the bill is signed. Yes they had a veto proof majority, however a stronger show would have been to sit on it for the 10 days for a potential pocket veto whilst negotiating the bill itself if they wanted it signed faster.

1
jigglyp33n 1 point ago +1 / -0

AFAIK the pocket veto only works if congress is not in session. If they're in session I believe the president has a time limit. If you think this is a better option provide proof the president could have sat there for 10 days.

The negotiation for higher checks and less pork. And it IS a negotiation, because the president has limited power here. It started when he pointed out that Americans were only getting $600. Now he has sent the bill back leveraging the Impoundment Act, and has redlined the pork and other issues. He's using the only leverage he has. Is that bad? What else could be done?

1
sleepy_roger 1 point ago +1 / -0

It's like saying Rand Paul shuld have just voted for it because it was going to pass anyway. Sometimes optics are better than just giving in. I'm not freaking out regardless 24 hour rule and all, just pointing out there are no negotiations to be had once a bill is signed as it has been.

1
jigglyp33n 1 point ago +1 / -0

I disagree, I don't think signing/not signing the bill gives him any leverage. Only the optics give him leverage.

-1
thecave888 -1 points ago +2 / -3

BINGO. Trump isn't negotiating shit. He has no power to make Congress do anything regarding the Covid bill he just signed AS-IS.

The Impoundment Control Act of 1974 isn't enforceable and historically Congress has almost always ignored it. They will certainly do so again.

It's an empty threat and boy has our side been making a lot of those lately.

Trump bent the knee a bit on this one and we all know it.

I'll be in DC on the 6th to support him/us/America, but we need to be honest with the fact he didn't win this one. Not by a long shot.

if the recission order is true, It seems Trump has turned their last minute political assault on him, back on them.

Instead of waiting 3 weeks to give Joe Biden a 10 trillion dollar Porkulus, they pushed thru a 2.4T one, thinking if Trump signs it, he loses his base, and they can claim its his fault there only 600 for you and me. That would effectively neuter his primary political leverage, whihc is the expected crowd on the 6th.

If He vetoes, its like dude wtf?! ppl were desperate for that aid! then the RINOs have political cover to vote against any electoral objections.

Instead, he told the public, i wnat 2k, 600 is shit. then he signs the bill with a recission demanding the bill be updated to reflect the 2k and cut the pork.

Now congress has to extricate itself from this mess without upsetting the ppl expecting 2k or the ppl who want the pork cut. Its all on them now.

less of a win than a dodge. It still sucks there is no budget process, and trillions in waste, when we could all just go back to work and the problems would solve themseleves.

Okay, I don't get it, everyone was saying congress was going to override a veto anyway. How is this not better?

0
thecave888 0 points ago +2 / -2

Because it's not better - Trump signed the bill AS-IS.

Him making unenforceable requests for changing the bill after the fact doesn't do shit.

Dems will vote tomorrow on a standalone increase to $2k per for Covid relief (which the GOP Senate will likely ignore) but all the other requests Trump made per his requests don't mean shit - they aren't enforceable and after 45 days the bill goes into full effect.

1
jigglyp33n 1 point ago +1 / -0

Okay but, if he vetoed, wouldn't congress override, and the bill get passed as-is anyway?

At least this way he's utilizing the power of this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congressional_Budget_and_Impoundment_Control_Act_of_1974

What would you have done differently?

-2
thecave888 -2 points ago +1 / -3

Didn't you read this part of the Wiki link you provided?

"Congress is not required to vote on the request, and has ignored most Presidential requests."

It's merely a face-saving gesture from Trump. Totally unenforceable. He has no power. He knows it. They know it. Now it's your turn to know it.

1
jigglyp33n 1 point ago +1 / -0

??? no one is saying it is enforceable. The bill would be passed as-is no matter what. Veto, no veto, whatever. Trump has red-lined all of the treason in the bill and is using the optics as leverage.

I'm asking for an explanation of what the better option would be. What is it?

-2
thecave888 -2 points ago +1 / -3

He veto it and do the redline issues. There would have been no bigger optics than that.

Force Congress to then pass a shit sandwich in the open w/o his approval.

I don't understand why some can't see that.

1
jigglyp33n 1 point ago +1 / -0

I mean, maybe I'm missing some piece of your argument, but isn't congress ALREADY passing a shit sandwich out in the open without his approval?

-2
thecave888 -2 points ago +1 / -3

You are referencing something that has no enforceable power.

After 45 days the bill Trump signed AS-IS goes into full effect.

1
BlackJack 1 point ago +1 / -0

I think the plan is for him to be in office in 1/20, then get the RINOs to bend the need or else get primaried in 2022.

Being smart and knowing how the system works isn't dooming. Never was.

That "dooming" shit was Reddit-levels of pussy-talk in here and it needs to stop.

Trump lost this one BIG TIME. Signing off on it and then saying he's going to REQUEST Congress come back and make revisions is just him trying to save face. Congress won't do shit because Trump has no power.

He knows it. They know it.

And people need to stop expecting Congress to save the day at the 11th hour regarding the Electoral College. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

This is the exact bill from a few days ago

3

And it wasn't in that bill, that was fake news. It was in the NDAA bill. The guy who said it was in the Omnibus was wrong.

Thank you for the clarification

0

2
Kfc_and_Watermelon 2 points ago +2 / -0

same bill. but i was wrong the insurrection act isn't in it

1
jigglyp33n 1 point ago +1 / -0

Thanks for clarifying!

Given that any veto would have been overridden, I fail to see how the current situation is a loss. The bill would have been passed NO MATTER WHAT. Right now Trump is using optics as leverage to further a different agenda. Am I the only person on this board not surprised by this, or are shills/doomers just out?

Some of you keep citing the Impoundment Control Act of 1974 as proof Trump pulled off some pushback against the disgusting Covid bill he signed AS-IS today.

HE DIDN'T.

That act is not enforceable. It's merely a request which historically Congress almost always ignores. They will certainly ignore it again and Trump knows this. What he did was merely an attempt to save some face.

Please look up the real information on the the Impoundment Control Act of 1974 and learn the truth of what it really is which is basically a big nothing.
