Its done on purpose and honestly communism is not being taught properly. If it was taught properly in schools no one would ever follow it. I had a teacher who taught communism right after we finished reading Thomas Paine, Adam Smith, de Tocqueville, and a few others. While the class read it, most of us asked the teacher if we could stop since it became clear in the Communist Manifesto that Marx was a lazy fuckwit who wanted to mooch off others instead of work.
However kids are taught early on that "sharing is caring" and that "you must bring some for the whole class or you cannot have it" its engrained early on. Schools do a good job of blurring the line between charity and forced distribution. This coupled with kids always going "I want ______, and I want it NOW". Zero sense of boundaries are set early on due to the massive rebuking them by the generations following the boomers. The Child Rearing Revolution of the late 70's to early 90's fucked up people badly.

Because communism always comes next. You've created an apparatus where the state is seen by too much of the public as the solution to all problems, and given it the power to take and redistribute at any level. It's only a matter of time before they do. Those countries did not begin with 40%+ tax rates, and had that been the pitch they would have balked at the first mention. But that's where they've slid to since it's inception. The US is no different, we're just less advanced in this slide to communism.
'Free' education and 'free' retirement becomes 'free' healthcare, and 'free' housing, and 'free' food, and 'free' transportation, until there's nothing left that isn't "free" at which point you're working for the government, and being given what they determine you deserve, and you wake up to realize the more that is 'free', the less that YOU are. You've become a serf and traded your Totalitarian Morarchy for a Totalitarian Oligarchy and you consul yourself because at least this tyrant is a supposedly benevolent one... but then why does the Tyrant live so well and you not? They've been using "essential" and "non-essential" terms for a LOT longer than just since Covid.
Academic and Government offices have been using that term to describe shutdowns for just about any work stoppage - weather, federal holidays, etc.- for the last 25 years.

I can tell you first hand that what is being done in the US was being done in China during lockdown. Only big government owned supermarkets were opened. The reality, is that many hospitals are empty, and they have time to make tic tock videos. Many of these 'nurses' were hired from other countries and played different roles in the pandemic.
Early on, the nurses blocking traffic, were Antifa in costume, enforcing the lock down.

The reason you never produce enough, even with the same amount of people as before, is because human beings are hard wired for justice, and equality, and fairness. Let me explain.
Since no matter how hard you work, you never eat more, there's no incentive to work harder than you need to. So why work harder than the laziest man? Why produce more than the dumbest dude who is terribly inefficient? Why do more than someone else is doing for the same bowl of soup?? That wouldn't be fair. If it's ok for him to only produce x amount by the end of the day, then fuck it, that's all you're going to produce too.
Of course, the commissars eventually realize this, and you start getting quotas. Except as a result, while the inherently productive people are fine, the inefficient lazy idiots (who communism is SUPPOSED to be helping) are failing the quotas and getting punished. Off to the gulag to break rocks, or off with their head.
If you can't make what your effort is worth, you'll lower your effort to make what you're paid (ie the famous quote: "The govt pretends to pay us and we pretend to work"). In the end the quotas can't be raised back up to what you're capable of under capitalism because if they do too many below you fail the quotas. They are damned if they do and damned if they don't and the result in either direction is low productivity.
All because man is inherently fair and can not stand inequity or injustice.
When learning about the Vietnam war in school, I never could grasp why we cared so much about the spread of communism. If you look at the basic definition of communism, it sounds like a way to help everyone out. But humans are monsters. And if people can be taken advantage of, they will be. And nothing accomplishes that like communism.

Charity and volunteerism are a punishable crimes under communism. Charity supports the unequal system. Volunteerism prevents a worker from having a paid job.
