I've always wanted to try taking a ship across the Atlantic. Not being sarcastic, dead serious. It just seems like it would psychologically add weight to your vacation once you got there.
There are still ships that do passengers as well as cargo. It's definitely no-frills, but you're right - it sounds like it'd be hell awesome to do at least once.
This is just the first tactic, to introduce it in the name of "safety" of course.
They'll extend it to all travel eventually, and to jobs, gyms, theaters, restaurants, etc.
Then the fun really beings, as they introduce other "functionality" to the "smart passport", like fingerprints, criminal record, credit score, social-media score, educational record, driving record, purchase history, etc. All centralized and archived forever, and sold as convenience enhancements.
A neat way to have kgb-style "check your papers" at every step of your life, without even having to pay the thugs to rough people up in the streets.
I'm okay with never flying again. Just an excuse to take more days off for vacation bc of the driving time. I don't mind :)
It won't stop there, once people accept this we will need their "papers" for just about everything
..that's the out.
"No habla Ingles, officer!"
"Oh, in that case have a nice day, Sir."
Also voting.

It wont ever matter, they will still use your tax dollars to bail them out as soon as profits are jeopardized.
Truth.
Happened yesterday.
Welp, time to buy an RV.
In Minecraft.
