I think the problem is you'd just make martyrs out of them. Even if Trump went on a righteous reign of terror and was taking people out left and right, more would grow into their place because he'd be feeding their illusions of victimization. Trying to wake up massive numbers of the population might not feel as effective or satisfying, but in the end it's a solution that could actually get us out of this mess.
And then it's just the next in line. Plenty in Vietnam were killed by they kept on coming. Plenty in Iraq were killed by new terror groups just kept on forming. Trump is the one to stop ISIS, don't forget. North Korea is no longer a nuclear threat, don't forget. Trump has defused some of these bombs around the world. If going in with an iron fist was the right way, why didn't the war on terror end terror?
This is kinda ironic considering we won Vietnam on the ground. The war was lost to weariness, not the actual fighting.
The Tet offensive was a disaster for the north, the Viet Cong was wiped out (only 10% were left according to even the most generous estimates) and the Northern Vietnamese Army suffered around a 50% loss in manpower from what I recall - they even started sending their troops south to pose as Viet Cong to keep the Viet Cong spirit going.
It only became a win for the NVA because public sentiment in the US turned against the war and the US pulled out.
It seems that the best strategy to diffusing bad actors is to carry a big stick and say you will whack them if they don’t relent. If you can cause your own media to be afraid you might do it, no one will mess with you or your country.
Trump is really good at controlling perception even with an enemy that wishes to defame him at every turn, that is his superpower. Godspeed.

That's not a solution, because the true nature of the problem is that we are divided. Once you try to solve the problem with military force, it creates MORE division. I think the only time you do that solution is as a very last resort, because the alternative would be them doing it to us. But prior to that, I think the diplomatic route is really the true way to actually solve the problem. It's a tough call though, if I was in Trump's shoes I'm sure I'd have f'ed it up.
