It also currently HEAVILY selects for young women, where as in the past it was much more diverse.

Yeah, try being a dude and having anything even remotely close to working with kids (besides pediatrician, I suppose) - you're automatically assumed to be a pedo/predator.

Off the bat it's massively skewed towards "no men." Because of low pay and God-awful working conditions, most anyone with the ability to do something else will end up going to the best school systems/non-public schools, or, when those are full, doing something else.

You end up with a bunch of low-tier trash populating the ranks of the teaching class and then promulgating their awful vices from there. Yes, there are some good teachers; I remember plenty that weren't bad at all and many that were excellent. However, there are many more that are useless and even more that are making children's lives worse just by existing and "teaching."

It doesn't "select" anyone. Anyone that can get through college can easily find a teaching job. In fact, because male teachers are so rare, male teachers are in high demand.

Unfortunately, it is our culture that has, for some reason, deemed teaching to be a woman's job. I am a male teacher and it is a profession that desperately needs more men.
