OP - wondering if you could share some of the resources you used to make this happen. I run an UnRAID box, figure I could use it as a mail sever too, but not sure where to start.
I've run mail servers for decades... Unless you're an uber geek ( that enjoys the tinkering/challenge ), running a personal mail server isn't worth the hassle.
First and foremost, you'll need a static IP and the ability to request a PTR record on that ip to identify the mail server. If you can't do that, you'll have lots of deliverability issues. I.e. can't do this with 99.5% of the residential internet plans out there, for good reason.
If there are any specific questions I'll be happy to answer them if I can.
Actually came here to say this myself. The only reason I’m using gmail instead of self hosting is deliverability difficulties. Just bought a lifetime mxroute account, though, hope to migrate soon.
