Why recently? Whether it's the start of the next 4 years of policy or an insurance policy against being screwed out of his right to recourse for the election fraud - I think the timing is largely irrelevant.
Clearly a president who does not believe in using his power to circumvent the justice system unless it is absolutely necessary just looking at the numbers - that being said I would be very disappointed if Julian Assange is not pardoned before Jan 20th.
