I went to a famous UC similar to UCLA. There were people who lived next to me who were there on basketball scholarships who COULD NOT READ. Completely illiterate. They had their college paid for and had fake classes they attended or had people attend class for them.

He came stomping in one day, infuriated, saying he was going to be held back in the program until he took a remedial writing course. According to him, admin said his writing was nearly illegible. I happened to have seen it before that point and can confirm that it was so. Sure enough, he was gone the following week. Keep in mind, we were already part way through the first year when he was told this.
The funny thing is, he raised the question that answers itself "If I can't write, how come I have a bachelors and got accepted into a grad program that NOW tells me I can't write?"
The worst part in all of this "lower standards" BS is they are keeping these people as underachievers or that our society will devolve into "we wuz" as appropriate grammar.
THIS is the kind of shit we need to focus on in this country after the 6th!! We have got to stand up to this and counter protest these bitches and stand up for this guy!! This teacher is probably a stupid liberal too but seeing a bunch of us stand up for HIS rights he'll change his way of thinking!!
About twenty years ago I was asked to tutor my neighbor's son. The kid was sixteen years old, in 10th grade, and struggling in school. His grades were consistently floating in the "C" area. The mom thought that he just needed a little extra help.
I brought him in and had him take some tests just so I could see where he stood. When it came time to write an essay, there was NO HOPE. He managed one mangled paragraph with the worst spelling I've ever seen in my life. My seven year old dyslexic daughter was easily reading Harry Potter at the time and my six year old son could write and spell better than this kid. He was struggling to read at a 3rd grade level. He spoke 'ghetto' so he didn't even have verbal language to fall back on for grammar.
I realized that he really needed to start from scratch. He had to be taught the basic principles of phonics so he'd have a solid foundation to build on.
So he came over for his first real tutoring session and I got out the books that were closer to his level. I did take him down a bit. I figured that he could whiz through some of the easy stuff, snap up those principles, then we could start challenging him a bit more. I really thought that I could get him pretty close to his actual age range in about a year if we buckled down.
The next day mama came banging on my door. She called me a racist and accused me of deliberately humiliating her son because he was a black kid. The saddest part is that she told me that she knew I was wrong about his abilities or he never would've made it to the 10th grade. She insisted that the fact that he'd never gotten anything lower than a "C" proved that he wasn't that far behind. I was fired on the spot.
The school did her son a serious disservice; but she did, too. By coddling her baby and refusing to even consider that he might be in real trouble, She cheated her son out of his ONE opportunity to thrive academically. Instead, she took it all as a racist insult.
Lol my freshman year I would be nice to the only black guy on my floor and change his english papers written in ebonics to a passing paper. Needless to say he was a POS stole my laptop and dropped out.
This what our occupied government wants for us: to be ruled by inferiority and nonsense. The permanent solutions are simple but hard, and even harder than the work itself is convincing peacenik hippy "conservatives" a) what the problem is and b) that the solution is better than allowing ourselves to be oppressed and genocided.
Shout out to Gary Reese, Arcadia, Florida- mechanic/electrician can fix ANYTHING. Didn't want to go to college, thought colleges were BULLSHIT. A lot were recruiting him to play football. His dad made him go. He picked one to play for in South Dakota where he could MAJOR in something that would NEVER change. ENGLISH GRAMMAR! He majored in English Grammar- 1970!
