In the sci fi future of the Matrix, the humans probably killed more of humanity via mass starvation after the planets couldn't grow and all other animals died out so they couldn't be eaten either.
Anyone considering this kind of geoengineering is ignoring the numerous unforeseen consequences that could make our lives far worse.
