This didn't work out well for the humans in the Matrix series. They thought they were clever to block out the sun because the machines relied on solar power.

Oh wait... so does every single living thing on planet Earth... they just aren't doing it through solar panels. In the sci fi future of the Matrix, the humans probably killed more of humanity via mass starvation after the planets couldn't grow and all other animals died out so they couldn't be eaten either.

Anyone considering this kind of geoengineering is ignoring the numerous unforeseen consequences that could make our lives far worse.

Morpheus: We don't know who struck first, us or them. But we do know it was us that scorched the sky. At the time, they were dependent on solar power. It was believed they would be unable to survive without an energy source as abundant as the sun.
