Hiring has become racist, sexist and political for the last decade or so. I used to be so blind to it because I thought merit mattered. Once I opened my eyes to the reality, I realized that merit was meaningless. Most of these big companies have so many processes in place they just need a body not a competent person to fill a role and people being hired are hired to fill some sort of doctrine, which is usually some sort of political fad, POC, diversity, women, etc...

If you're quite conservative, that will come off in interviews and you won't get the job over "fit" reasons and the fit was nothing more than a subtle impression of your personality which was conservative. Many of these large companies do not like to hire true conservatives onto their teams and it's tough to hide true conservatism from people because it comes out in how you don't bend the knee to all the woke nonsense going on in corporate America. The bigger the business, the worse it is generally. Certain industries obviously worse than others like tech vs. O&G.

Merit hasn't been in style since the 70s tbh.
