If you get paper checks, mail them back. Neither of us file taxes electronically, nor do we give the feds banking info. They can stuff it. ALL the paperwork the feds get from us is actual paperwork. Same with our state taxes, business taxes, etc...

Now when hubby gets social security, they may well mandate we get direct deposit. But if they don't mandate direct deposit, we won't get it.

We also operate on a cash economy in our house other than a debit card, and there is just enough in the bank to cover the few times we use the debit card. We deposit cash to cover that if we are going to use it a lot like when we are on the road.

No credit cards.

Had I personally paid federal income taxes taxes last year, it would be "my money" so to speak. But as I did not, it's not my money regardless.

Yep they do. But when you live on a cash economy and live simply, the impact isn't nearly as noticeable as it is otherwise. Our baseline household budget generally comes in a percentage point or so below the published inflation rate, sometimes more. I typically only have to adjust the household budget about every 3 years these days, during obama it got adjusted annually to match inflation rates because obamacare was a cash sucker until we used a loophole to get out of it.

Once we get settled in the new place and get more self sufficient again in terms of food and household that will also make a difference.
