Same. It only hurts the people they claim to help. I'm a woman in IT and the only reason that's even relevant is that from now on, when I get promoted I will always wonder whether it's on my merit alone.
Any kind of affirmative action does more harm than good. Undercutting the self-confidence of the person hired or promoted, or keeping better suited candidates out of a position.
It's why so many kids drop out of prestigious universities, when a state school or even starting off with two years at community college before transferring would have done them so much good. They aren't ready or qualified. Those that are, feel the way you do, and wonder if they can hack it even if they absolutely can.
