99.86% of this solar system is a giant power plant that you plug into through DC! All solar panels, batteries, everything that runs on batteries, electronics, electric cars, everything in your car, proper LED lights, etc are naturally DC!

The only reason for AC is long-distance power transmission, to make it centralized so that the government could cut it off at any time.

Change my mind. 🤓

What’s a radio wave then?

Radio waves are alternating electromagnetic waves, not alternating current. They are used to carry information, not a form of power transmission.

This "shitpost" rant is about the difficulty of finding appliances that run off-the-grid efficiently. Converting DC power from solar panels, batteries, dynamo, etc to AC inside your home / campground / yacht / seastead / spacestation is wasteful and retarded.

DC is the future.

DC is not the future Neither is AC It has been and always will be a blend

What do you think AC is without a medium of transmission. It’s literally EM wave. When it comes to propagating voltage via magnetic induction AC is the more “natural” state of transmission. Otherwise you’d have to waste energy to convert to DC.

Consider this regardless of whether it’s AC or DC you’re still pushing electrons down a line. DC you’re pushing an electron all the way till there’s a break. AC your pushing an electron back and fourth from A to B on a small section of a line.

The way we do power transmission now in this country, utilizing DC in my opinion would be retarded.

Thank you very much for your intelligent reply to my hyperbolic rant.

Just as a thought experiment: imagine a setup (ex. a seastead, off-the-grid home, space station close to the sun) where 100% of power comes from solar (with batteries). Would that be 100% DC?

Any closed circuit system DC is optimal in most circumstances. I don’t know how said space station is engineered but I’m inclined to go with DC. Not to say they wouldn’t take said DC and convert to AC for other applications I.E. wireless communications.

If said station was literally a solar power plant AC would be the best way to transmit power back down to the surface.

It requires larger voltages of DC to push electricity farther. Energy is analogous, so a higher voltage would require more energy.
