The only reason for AC is long-distance power transmission, to make it centralized so that the government could cut it off at any time.

DC motors are quickly coming from behind. Once the tech challenges are solved, AC electric car motors will be seen as a historical oddity.

DC brushless motors work with an inverter or drive that varies the magnetic field and polarity. In other words, AC. Better performance to be sure but much more expensive and complex.
