Maybe that's why they having it in Singapore, far away from any nuke in EU. Also their police can by as brutal as the Chicoms on protestors AND they have been using Dominion election software for their voting.

I don't know the details, but essentially a corporate internet security provider.

They're used to mass-block specific content (NSFW, etc.), and provide anti-virus overwatch within a large-scale computer network.

I.e; They keep me from my memes when I'm at work

KillaKrayon 10 points ago +10 / -0

Why would anyone use a work computer connected to Activate Directory that can load proxy security certificates. Sophos blocking access is the least of the concerns. For the life of me I'll never understand why.people do personal stuff on company equipment, us Net Admins can view all the traffic in plain text. Logins, passwords, and GET and PUSH. Sigh....

4
skygz 4 points ago +4 / -0

I limit my personal use on my work laptop to checking the weather

3
Trump_in_2020_Pedes 3 points ago +4 / -1

us Net Admins can view all the traffic in plain text

Not if I connect to my home PC over an RDP tunnel you can't. Care to try again?

0
KillaKrayon 0 points ago +1 / -1

Yes and no actually, but I doubt anyone would go far enough to worry with it. If you're employer allows port 3389 connections on publicly routable IP Addresses I wouldn't worry to much about anything their security is mid-tier at best. It's normally secured by adding a whitelist of IP Addresses for this protocol, so most home IPs are going to be blocked. Yes you could change the port but still same protocol. The main thing is the key being used to establish encryption for the session, again company proxy. In theory if I wanted to recompile the session from proxy records it's possible to see key strokes. I have not tested it since the big security update they pushed out, mainly I don't care. By I'm sure the possibility still exists. Feel free to setup Burp Proxy and test it over a Switch and check it for yourself.

Trump_in_2020_Pedes 2 points ago +2 / -0
  1. I don't have an employer, that's not how it works.

  2. I can usually connect over RDP and they can't view my traffic in plain text.

1
KillaKrayon 1 point ago +1 / -0

They're UDP coded and they changed the internal encryption inside the packets -- I couldn't not look it up after I stated that. So yeah as along as you can get out of their network undetected you're good. I'll give you the '.win' on that one sir, this pede will concede... Only because you you didn't cheat to win.... But still RDP exposed on the public internet - yeah okay I've done it before on a VM inside the DMZ for remote access only. So again you win on that too....

2
Trump_in_2020_Pedes 2 points ago +2 / -0

Well, I mean, it's not like I'm a computer genius...it's just necessity. I'm on a client site, with my own laptop, and periodically need to access the data on my home server. So, I can RDP into my home server, copy any documents I need and either email them to myself, or FTP them. If I can't access my home server, I'm hosed.

schiff_for_brains 0 points ago +1 / -1

You won’t on my network.

1
Trump_in_2020_Pedes 1 point ago +1 / -0

You can block the port, but I can still connect to my home PC. I can connect over my iphone if you block port 3389.

Sophos works on a dedicated firewall. Think about how you have a router right? Traffic flows through it and then goes to your computer. Well a dedicated hardware firewall puts a physical device between the router and your computer (and the rest of the network) to block traffic based on certain patterns, or by rules like "what IP address is trying to access this specific part of our network". And since it's a dedicated piece of hardware and not software on a server you can't just shut it off without either hacking the firewall (logging into the IP internally with admin credentials and turning off protection) or, you know, disconnecting it from the network physically.

All I got is a similar sounding "sophist/sophistry" which generally has a negative modern connotation although the ancient Greeks had a different idea. Ah, looking at a dictionary entry for "sophist" shows this:

ORIGIN mid 16th century: via Latin from Greek sophistēs, from sophizesthai ‘devise, become wise’, from sophos ‘wise’.

Well, we're getting "wise" to them, I'd say.

edit: also "sophistication/sophisticated" come from this origin.

It'd be a shame if people started posting bad reviews of sophos softwares everywhere.

Reviews, twitter, this website... would be a shame as it woild damahe their brand a lot... sales would fall and ultimately the marketing head would have to answer some tough questions.

Would.be a shame so dont do it

4

The left has been using this tactic for years to get the right banned. Maybe it wouldn't be such a bad strategy for us.

2
Thatonedinoguy 2 points ago +2 / -0

Sophos is more known for its hardware then software. 90% of the clients for the Managed service provider (IT support for businesses) I work for use a sophos hardware firewall. You want to hurt sophos? Tell everyone their VPN service is shit/randomly cuts out/shortcut disappears. Or say that by default they leave ports open that hackers can use to gain remote access into a network. Both are true.

5
2020isKAGtime 5 points ago +5 / -0

While it is shitty that they did this in the first place, I just wanted to point out that Sophos has more than just AV software, and actually works really good at one of my old jobs. They use an XG firewall and Intercept X subscription. Plus RED VPN boxes to connect offices around the nation back to the XG. Those are handy. And the way the AV software works with the firewall is cool. Say a known threat is detected on a computer from a bad email, the software recognizes a weird change in the way the OS is operating and sends the info to the firewall. The firewall then isolates that computer from the rest of the network (but still communicates with the firewall) while the software works on cleaning/fixing the issue. Once cleaned and confirmed, the software sends the OK back to the firewall, which opens up the computer to the rest of the network again. Happens in seconds. Twice this happened during my employment there. The fix was done before a ticket was created by the user. One time though, it ran on a false positive and didn’t complete the process. So I had some manual work to do. That pissed me off.

2

Sophos participates with other corporations on constructing domain blocking lists. This domain was on a hate list. It was likely added by one or more persons in an IT dept within or at other corporations. SJWs in IT depts can submit domain names for blocking and add description for why. This website apparently irritated someones 3rd botched vaginal reconstruction surgery and they had to lash out and get revenge.

Sophos doesn’t actually block sites, they just provide a list. It’s up to the individual sysadmins if they want to block thedonald.win or not. Most will choose to keep it blocked, sadly. My work has.

Good work on all who acted to reverse this.

But let’s give these companies a way out - unlike the destructive left.

Set a goal... is it to reverse it? An apology statement? Reprimand a rogue employee activist?

Give them a way out, and make sure they tow the line. Pressure only until objective. Make them serve you.

Don’t make them think there is no way out.

Maybe I’m wrong though. Discuss.

Sophos sells firewalls that many businesses use to block access to sites. For instance, malware sites, news sites, etc.

Sophos classified Win as a malware site. Not any longer.

Unrelated, but now that voat.co has quit Chrome/Google NOW takes me to the website. For months they've blocked voat.co, only results in searches were to websites with stories about how voat was a horrible, racist, violent extremist right-wing terror site that should be shut down by the govt and how website such as this are examples of why the First Amendment is outdated, needs...amended. Now that voat closed shop all searches both in google's search bar and chrome's address bar go directly to the closed notice page. Google/chrome can fuck right off, their social justice warrior censorship in searches is disgusting and in fact it's harmful when there's a generation, or two, growing up not realizing the truth and facts that they're picking and choosing to suppress. I have two kids, ages 10 and 12, we've taught both how browsers and search engines can censor and how and when to use which ones as best we can discern. My kids will grow up being "woke" to logic, facts, objectivity, and having a value system of equality, NOT equity because equity requires racist acts to achieve and we're not about that. Anyway, thought it was fucking funny to see once voat goes down they remove the censor.
