That's a Russian built Li-2. (a primitive copy, liscensed by Douglas) Used a pot belly coal stove for cabin heat.

But it is still an American designed. And a plane that is still being used today. If it where an American plane it would be on an air field waiting for its next job.

Well it was a great design yes, but the Russian version was a primitive copy. I am very fond of Russian aircraft though. Our P-47 Thunderbolt had lots of Russian influence. Every one was spying or sharing technology.

We supplied them with hundreds of locomotives, all free and never paid back a nickle thru lend lease. Britian didn't even pay interest on their lend lease obligation, USA got screwed horribly!
