And what about her recent behaviour? And is she really atoning?
I sure hope my past won't be held against me because I've done some messed up things, [...]
Why shouldn't your past be held for and against you? Of course it should! Just like your later actions should be held for or against you depending on them.
[...] , but the good thing is we are all new creatures in Christ.
That assumes genuine atonement and a genuine desire to seek genuine, meaningful forgiveness. And genuine forgiveness can be incredibly difficult to achieve.
Im referring to how God will not hold our past against us should we put faith in our Lord and Savior and genuinely change, which it seems to me that she has as she's grown in her faith. I have as well, and there are many people who have done terrible things who have turned a new leaf after coming to Christ so I wouldn't hold their past against them.

But that is not what you wrote, you wrote: "I can only imagine how bad a lot of us would seem to others if our past was held against us, [...]" , which is about others. And your past should definitely be held both for and against you, just like your later actions should be held for and against you. Did you genuinely repent and seek genuine, meaningful forgiveness? Then that should be held for you. But the worse things one did, the extremely much more difficult it is to genuinely repent.

And how many of those genuinely repented and sought genuine and meaningful forgiveness? And how many didn't? Saying "I'm totally repenting" (and then possibly continuing the wretchedness and evil, possibly masking it better) is not at all genuine repentance nor meaningful.
