Frankly, I believe a National Emergency should have been declared and the Insurrection Act used to confiscate equipment and evidence on about Nov 5th. The DOJ should have been ordered immediately to form a special counsel with the help of the FBI and the president should have given emergency clearance to central, trusted people to overwatch the whole thing. In fact, the President could have set up his own special counsel in this very course to which the DOJ would report their findings directly.
