I'm also going alone, flying in, so not bringing any defense items. pedes driving in should bring extra small safety products for frens :) id be more then happy to buy a can o mace for my well being , slightly elder pede here. im a scraper but they never fight fair. see you there:)
Be careful with airbnb. Used to live in DC and during the inauguration, renters (or whatever they call them) who lived there would cancel on Trump supporters last minute then go brag online and to their friends about how they oWnEd tHe rAcIsTs by ruining their plans. Apparently the company is pretty cucked too and are probably fine with them doing that. Just be aware stuff like that could happen and have a backup plan.
When GEOTUS won in 2016 I was so MAGA that I drove solo in my '96 Trailblazer there from Chicago, I found a free parking spot by the Metro stop, in front of a 3 story row hou$e 2 blocks from Dupont Circle. I left it parked there for three days, Covered the windows and had a curtain for the front - so I slept in it comfortably for both nights, changed my gear in the am and then went out on foot and did patriotic shit. Had a blast met some real cool mfrs, and will be back Jan 5-7!!!! #NoRetreatNoSurrender #MAGA
I’ve spent time in northern Canada. -40 degrees before the wind. One trick that could be handy for the Pedes in autos for the night is: bring a good candle. You can light it, and it will keep you above freezing. Another is layers. A blanket inside a sleeping bag makes a huge difference. So do multiple shirts under a sweater.
Nobody's going to do much sleeping in DC.

Doing my best to get there. Coming from North Idaho. 38F low is child's play. A small tent or a tarp will do. That is not cold.
It's not cold like out west, there's a lot of moisture in the air which makes it feel colder than it is. The windchill is the true temp.
I don't get uncomfortable until exactly 14 degrees. That's when I put on a coat. Think I'll make it.
