Testimony was interrupted by someone asking that Garland could speak again, as he had exciting TIME-SENSITIVE news;
he took the mic and let them know that they had JUST successfully established a connection to the Fulton Co. voting machines - not just through a thermostat but the machines themselves - and could SHOW THE VOTES at that very moment, live.
Smart thermostats that let you adjust the temperature from your smart phone or a laptop when you're away from home or office rely on wireless connectivity.
Apparently, the thermostat was connected to the government network and was also acting as a bridge for Dominion voting machines so they were able to access the outside world (even though they're supposed to be offline).
Not sure about here, but there was a report last week about a WiFi connected thermostat that was being used as an entry point to exfiltrate data to CCP servers.
Not sure why any gov agency would allow IoT devices on their network, but whatever. State Gov IT people seem to think Cybersecurity involves unplugging the Ethernet cable of a compromised device from the wall so the hacker is physically trapped inside.
It might not be connected to the government network. It might have been connected to something like a cell router and the thermostat passively scanned the network, picked up a non broadcasting SSID, and used the thermostat as tunnel to the machine via wifi. IF the machine was also hardlined, they could use the machine to tunnel to Dominion central servers. They're hopping, skipping, and jumping.
FOR THOSE WHO MISSED THE MOMENT:

What does 'thermostat' mean in this context?

Thanks.
Proxy is the word you’re looking for.

Thanks. I thought it must have some other meaning.
