Smart thermostats that let you adjust the temperature from your smart phone or a laptop when you're away from home or office rely on wireless connectivity.

Apparently, the thermostat was connected to the government network and was also acting as a bridge for Dominion voting machines so they were able to access the outside world (even though they're supposed to be offline).
